If you want to fish more effectively near the bottom in a deep, powerful stream or river, the problem is often that you can't reach the depth with a regular brass bead. A tungsten bead solves this problem. Tungsten is about 70% heavier than lead and more than twice as heavy as copper. Moreover, it's non-toxic, making it more environmentally friendly. This allows you to tie flies nice and thin without adding extra weights. A jig-off bead has a teardrop shape, so the hole is off-center. This makes the fly behave like a jig, even when a jig hook isn't used. The hook point will always point upward with this bead.
